Is Your HIT Resume Drowning in Jargon?

We’re all guilty. Jargon is ubiquitous in our writing and cutting back is as hard as turning down a piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. It seems even harder in the healthcare IT field because we’re combining two notoriously buzzword heavy fields. Phrases like synergy, space, and “outside the box” are just the beginning of overused and empty sayings. Don’t get me wrong, I think jargon has its place, but just like sugar has its place in food, we all need to cut back, especially in our resumes.   Continue reading

Video: Personality Counts in HIT Consulting

Brian Hill says hospitals should look for health IT consultants with application experience or subject matter expertise. Personality is also an important component. The healthcare IT consultant must come into an organization and make an immediate impact without disrupting the overall culture of the hospital. FCP works to find a good personality fit for each hospital it works with – someone who can blend into the environment and do a great job.

ICD-9 and ICD-10 knowledge and revenue management experience along with a technology background will be important. Carter says it’s the coupling of subject matter expertise with technology knowledge that will be most in demand. As hospitals add technology, there needs to be a strategy behind the technology.

Mark Scherling explains the bottom line is important in managing HIT projects for hospitals, but it isn’t the most important goal. Reaching the objectives and overall goals of the project is key. Providing lessons learned and an overview of accomplishments is important to making sure the health IT project has met client expectations and the strategic objectives of the organization. While money is important, HIT project managers need to make sure they deliver what the clients have asked.

Video: Federal Health IT Market

Carter Groome looks at the federal HIT market and its effect on the commercial health IT industry. He says Veterans Affairs (VA) is taking a leadership position and it’s based on its VistA success. Carter believes both the commercial and federal markets look at each other’s successes and failures to learn from them. FCP’s experience in both marketplaces allows it to capitalize on its knowledge to help hospitals and health systems. Carter thinks the VA and its approach will continue to lead the marketplace.
